Job Summary/Basic Function:

Lake Superior State University Athletics is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented NCAA Sports Technical Director. Reporting directly to the Assistant Athletic Director for Game Management, this position is responsible for overseeing live in-venue production elements, jumbotron operations, and multi-media technical aspects of home athletic contests directly from the press box or scorers' table. The Technical Director ensures a high-quality, professional, and engaging game-day environment for student-athletes and fans while maintaining strict compliance with NCAA regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Jumbotron & Video Board Operation: Direct and manage the live in-arena video board production, including switching internal camera feeds, executing instant replays, playing institutional or sponsor graphics, and coordinating in-game crowd entertainment elements.

Technical Game Management: Oversee the setup, operation, and teardown of press box and scorers' table technical systems, ensuring seamless integration of the official game clock, shot clocks, statistical software displays, and public address audio systems.

Crew Leadership: Supervise, train, and coordinate student game-day staff assigned to technical roles, including scoreboard operators, replay technicians, camera operators, and audio engineers.

Game Management Collaboration: Partner closely with the Assistant Athletic Director for Game Management and sports information staff to execute the pre-game script, timing protocols, and promotional activities flawlessly.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Perform pre-game diagnostic checks on all stadium/arena A/V and production equipment. Rapidly troubleshoot technical glitches under live, high-pressure sports environments.

Minimum Qualifications:

Technical Skills: Proven experience operating professional video switchers, digital graphics software, and stadium audio consoles.

Sports Knowledge: Strong familiarity with NCAA rules, timing structures, and statistical tracking across core university sports (specifically Ice Hockey, Basketball, and Volleyball).

Availability: Ability to work a flexible schedule, including heavy evening, weekend, and select holiday hours aligned with the LSSU varsity athletic calendar.

Characteristics: Exceptional communication skills, grace under pressure, strong leadership abilities, and acute attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience directing or technical-directing live in-arena entertainment or video boards at the collegiate or professional level.

Familiarity with the integration of NCAA-approved statistics programs (e.g., Genius Sports, StatCrew) with in-stadium display systems.

Physical Demands:

Ability to remain stationary in a press box or at a scorers' table for extended periods during athletic contests.

Sufficient manual dexterity to operate complex electronic switchboards, computers, and A/V gear.

Occasional lifting and moving of production equipment up to 30 lbs

Lake Superior State University Athletics is seeking dependable and enthusiastic students to join the Game Day Operations Team. These essential roles support the execution of home athletic events for Laker Hockey, Volleyball, and Men’s and Women’s Basketball, ensuring a professional and entertaining experience for student-athletes, fans, and visitors. Key Responsibilities: Students may be assigned one or more of the following roles depending on availability, experience, and interest: 1. Scoreboard & Time Clock Operator Operate the game clock, scoreboard, shot clock, and penalty timers using official systems, Work closely with officials and scorekeepers to ensure accurate timing and display, Maintain focus and attention to detail throughout the game. 2. Technical Assistant Assist with technical aspects including lighting, jumbotron operation and sound support 5.
