Title: Academic Accessibility Services Coordinator

Job Summary/Basic Function:

Work with faculty, staff, and external service providers to coordinate and implement services for students with disabilities.

Review and establish reasonable accommodations for students under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the federal Fair Housing Act.

Act as a resource for academic accessibility related information across all areas of campus.

Maintain confidential cumulative records of all students served.

Complete student intake process, determine eligibility, and arrange academic accommodations for eligible students. Responsible for providing and supporting adaptive technology and auxiliary aids when applicable (such as assistive technologies including; alternative format textbooks, screen reading programs, assistive hearing or vision devices, assistive software, and other supports as appropriate).

Develop and update Academic Accessibility Services policies and procedures as needed.

Serve as liaison to Housing and Student Life on issues related to students with disabilities to ensure compliance with ADA and the Fair Housing Act. Work collaboratively with the Office of Housing and Residence Life to receive and recommend Housing, Dining and/or Service/Assistance Animal accommodation requests.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge on best practices and issues in the field.

Participate in relevant professional development activities to stay informed of state and federal regulations regarding students with disabilities and special populations.

Keep staff and administration informed of state and federal requirements for areas of assigned responsibility.

Coordinate services for students with temporary disabilities.

Represent Academic Accessibility Services at campus events.

Serve on campus committees and is active in professional organizations.

Serve as an active and collaborative member of the Library & Academic Services team.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Education, Psychology, or a closely related field.

Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the federal Fair Housing Act as they apply to postsecondary education.

Demonstrated ability to review, interpret, and apply medical and psychological disability documentation in a postsecondary context.

Working knowledge of the DSM-5 diagnostic framework and its application to postsecondary disability documentation review.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal and policy information with clarity and compassion.

Experience actively participating in a collaborative team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

3-5 years’ experience working in higher education.

Master's degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a closely related field.

Demonstrated experience with case management software or student information systems used in disability services coordination.

Experience working with individuals with a range of disabilities, including learning, psychological, sensory, physical, and chronic health conditions.

Experience with assistive technology platforms including screen readers, text-to-speech software, alternative format production, and captioning services.

Excellent skillsets in creativity and critical thinking.

Physical Demands:

Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of gross motor skills to perform management and organizational duties; use of fine motor skills to operate computer; problem-solving ability; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks; mental capacity to assist with numerous administrative responsibilities.

Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00

Admissions Student Ambassadors are a vital part of the recruitment of prospective students and are employed directly by the Admissions Office at Lake Superior State University.
