Title: Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

Job Summary/Basic Function:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director – Director of Athletic Communications, the Assistant Director will assist in athletic webpage content creation and maintenance, multi-sport media coverage, manage statistics, and support in all game day operations as assigned with emphasis on men’s D1 hockey. Additional responsibilities include supervising student staff, assist in managing live-streaming operations, and collaborating with marketing, development, and university communications teams to support strategic initiatives and elevate the profile of LSSU and LSSU Athletics.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Serve as the primary media contact for assigned athletic programs, coordinating interviews, press inquiries, and official responses.
2. Coordinate social media coverage with assigned teams and Creative Content department.

3. Build schedules for essential gameday positions – statistics, photography, television production.

4. Produce game notes for assigned sports with live broadcasts.
5. Assist in training staff in the areas of game day operations, sports information, photography, digital media and content creation.
6. Assist in training student workers and interns in the areas of game day operations, sports information, photography, and digital media.
7. Maintain accurate statistics and historical records for all sports, ensuring timely and correct submission to the NCAA, conference, and other governing bodies.
8. Collaborate with coaches and athletic staff to develop storytelling opportunities and publicity strategies that highlight student-athletes, teams, and achievements.
9. Design and produce official publications such as game programs, media guides, recruiting materials, and postseason promotional content.
10. Assist in coordination with the NCAA, GLIAC, CCHA, and other affiliated organizations for weekly and postseason award nominations, as well as compliance with media requirements.
11. Assist in managing credentialing and press accommodations for home events, including photographers, broadcasters, and media members.
12. Preform other duties as assigned by the Communications Director or Athletic Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field
Superior written and oral communication and public relations skills
Exceptional organizational and administrative skills
Demonstrated commitment to comply with all CCHA, GLIAC, NCAA rules and regulations
Demonstrated excellent decision-making capabilities
A passion for the success of student-athletes
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree
Experience in collegiate communications, media relations or sports information

Physical Demands:

Adequate health and fitness to maintain long hours, busy schedule, and travel with teams and to conferences as required. Use of gross motor skills in promotional and record keeping activities; use of fine motor skills in preparation of publications and promotional material and record keeping; ability to see, hear and speak clearly, for reporting, recording and broadcasting games and events; ability to provide media coverage and represent the University in publicity activities.

Work Hours: 

In addition to Mon-Fri, weekends and evening expected
