Head Strength and Conditioning Coach

FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

This position will assist in coordinating various aspects of the strength and conditioning program for the department of intercollegiate athletics, including but not limited to: working with coaching staff to coordinate appropriate strength and conditioning plans; coordinating with the athletic training staff on appropriate return to participation programs; and working on special assignments. The Strength and Conditioning Coordinator will report directly to the Director of Athletics.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assess individual and team needs
• Develop strength and conditioning programs that focus on proper movement preparation, power development, energy system development, utilizing free weight exercises, plyometric training and sport specific movement training
• Implement strength and conditioning programs
• Schedule team workouts
• Apply appropriate motivational techniques
• Ensure instruction in safe and correct execution of all training parameters
• Periodically assess general fitness performance through testing
• Review injury records and consult with team athletic trainers on preventive exercises
• Other duties as assigned

Skill in computer applications including word processing and spreadsheets.
Ability to work flexible work schedule including nights and weekends.
Ability and willingness to support, respect and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community including faculty, staff, students and constituents.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor’s degree is required. The successful candidate is required to have or secure certification through National Strength and Conditioning Association - Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist or the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association - Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified within four months of employment. CPR/AED Certification required. Experience in ice hockey strength and conditioning is desired. Knowledge of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules and regulations is desired.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
To appropriately and positively motivate student athletes
The ability to create, design, and implement strength and conditioning program
Ability to monitor weight room which requires moving of various weights in size and weight
Ability to assist student-athletes in exercise prescription including spotting duties
Occasional responsibilities to lead on-ice conditioning activities
