To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
1. Supervise and manages Sport Utility Attendants, Taffy Abel Manager, Norris Aquatic Director and student hourly employees; interviews applicants and makes hiring recommendations; trains and orients new employees; monitors and evaluates job performance; monitors and approves employee leave requests.
2. Ensures compliance with university policies and procedures.
3. Receives and manages employee and student complaints and attempts to resolve the issue; assigns and issues lower-level corrective action in accordance with university policies and procedures; receives and adjust/respond to grievances; investigates and effectively recommends more severe discipline action (e.g. major suspensions, terminations, etc.) as warranted.
4. Administers the scheduling, administration, and supervision of daily operations for all Norris Center athletic facilities, student recreation facilities and public recreation facilities; manages the facility and programs in accordance with the policies and procedures governing the departments’ operations.
5. Coordinates and manages a proactive customer service program; works independently with the ability and adaptability to use sound judgment and discretion to make decisions in managing the operations of the department, including emergency situations, with efficiency and effectiveness, without direct supervision.
6. Develop and propose an annual budget development for the Norris Center, Aquatic Center for approval from the Athletic Director.
7. Develops Norris Center usage reports quarterly or more frequently at the request of the Athletic Director.
8. Manages revenue including point of sale in accordance with all University policy and procedures.
9. Assists in the maintenance and inventory of facility equipment; researches and makes recommendations for equipment repair, replacement, and/or purchase; maintain records and provide reports where requested.
10. Communicates with Campus Safety and University facility personnel as needed; manages the department’s injury, incident, and theft reports.
11. Performs necessary physical tasks related to facility preparations in conjunction with building activities and rentals.
12. Serves as liaison for events that take place in all athletic facilities and attends event management meetings to communicate with University support areas.
13. In coordination with the Athletic Director and other athletic administrative staff, plan and execute NCAA sport home competitions with an emphasis on the fan safety, fan experience and activation of corporate partner engagement.
14. Assist in the coordination of Norris Center and Aquatic Center event catered food service.
15. Develop, implement, and update the Aquatic Center Guidelines Manual for the aquatic center.
16. Coordinate Aquatic Center staff work schedules in accordance to state mandated requirements of pool usage for academic classes, instructional recreation sessions, open recreation use, varsity athletic practices and competition, special events, sponsored age group programs and other community based Aquatic Center use; verify hours of programming and staffing, generates invoices, and submit billing for Aquatic Center for off-campus groups and generates department chargebacks for on-campus groups. Set pool use schedule for opening/closing times, special events, classes, etc.
17. Maintain accurate records regarding health, safety, discipline, incidents occurring in the aquatics center; coordinate verification procedures, maintain records of state mandated certifications and cross over training to any new certification materials of Aquatic Center staff; coordinate and conduct in-service training seminars every semester.
18. Maintain, repair, and conduct inventory for program equipment for the Norris Center and Aquatics Center.
19. Coordinate verification procedures and maintains records of state mandated certifications of the as well as CPR and Blood Born Pathogen training for all staff within the Aquatic Center; maintain communication with the Department of Environmental and Occupational Safety to coordinate pool closings when warranted for health and/or safety reasons; maintain the weekly pool/spa operation report form for daily pool side chemical checks in accordance with Michigan Reviewed Code chapter Public Swimming Pools or Spas for the Department of Environmental Health and Occupational Safety; assure daily pool side chlorine and pH levels are taken routinely for the pool is in operation; maintain daily pool chemical records; assure the pool water temperature is maintained appropriately and the pool area temperature is maintained appropriately; assure the pool bottom is cleaned when needed; assure the physical characteristics of the pool which includes water level, gutter level, water clarity, pool bottom conditions and water surface conditions are checked routinely; institute policy changes when deemed necessary in accordance with State Health Code; place appropriate signage on all entrances to the pool when the pool is closed due to unforeseen circumstances and remove signage and inform appropriate personnel once the pool is reopened.
20. With athletics and recreation being a secondary user, assist in the coordination and utilization of the academic classroom spaces within Norris Center.
21. Coordinate faculty/ staff lockers and lock usage and schedules yearly cleaning of lockers; perform daily inspection of locker rooms for health and safety concerns; make necessary communications to correct concerns when warranted.
22. Follow and comply with all rules and regulations of the department and the institution.
23. Promote a program environment of inclusion.
24. May drive LSSU vehicles to assure the team arrives safely to scheduled activities.
25. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director to promote, advance and ensure the effective and efficient operation of LSSU.
