Assistant Athletics Director – Director of Athletic Academic Services, Leadership and Life Skills Development

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepares and organizes the process of verifying academic eligibility that complies with NCAA regulations; coordinates review of degree requirements by an outside academic authority, via the Academic Eligibility Committee; ensures committee has necessary and appropriate academic documentation for review as needed; provides rules education to committee as NCAA legislation changes.
2. With Director of Compliance, reviews and prepares academic data for submission of NCAA reports such as APR and GSR. Provides projections on academic data to assist staff and coaches with roster management and decision making. Prepares institutional reports as directed.
3. Reviews data on academic background of student-athletes to identify potential levels of academic achievement and recommend proposed majors; recommends and counsels student-athletes on academic options, considering the athlete’s strengths and weaknesses, educational needs, time management skills, sport schedules, and NCAA/conference regulations. Responsible for creation and continuation of academic support programs for incoming and current student-athletes to ensure academic success.
4. Applies NCAA Division I and Division II academic rules to student-athlete’s academic plan towards a degree; works cooperatively with campus constituents who review NCAA academic eligibility and provides necessary support documentation. Serves as primary contact for other advisors when eligibility issues arise or problem-solving is needed to find a solution.
5. Participates in prospect campus visits; prepares unofficial evaluations of prospective student-athlete records, including transfers; works cooperatively with academic departments and the International Programs Office in obtaining course equates for domestic and international students.
6. Assists coaches in providing regular updates as to academic standings for student-athletes, as well as likelihood of prospects meeting NCAA Initial Eligibility. Responsible for preparing periodic grade reports for coaches.
7. Establishes and refines processes to track the academic progress and academic status of student-athletes during each academic term. Manages academic support plan creation for students who are at-risk or struggling academically.
8. Manages operations such as, but not limited to, coordinating study table and tutoring sessions, monitoring of the area, and ensuring that coaches have regular updates on study hours completed.
9. Recommends and assists student-athletes in applying for academic scholarships and awards including those offered by the NCAA, conference, and other related agencies.

10. Serves as liaison with student support services, referring student-athletes to other offices when appropriate; also serves as primary liaison with University academic advisors and faculty. Cultivates and builds relationships with university departments and support areas.
11. Create, manage and in collaboration with campus partners, athletic senior staff and coaches, execute student-athlete leadership programming.
12. Collaborate with faculty, alumni and others in support of student-athlete experiential internships in alignment with post-graduation success.
13. Management of academic support and leadership development budget as designated by the Athletics Director.
14. Student-athlete Case Management:
a. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to ensure students are persisting. Empower students to develop and accomplish their personal, academic, and career goals.
b. Contribute to strategic initiatives related to student retention, sense of belonging, and student engagement.
c. Assist in coordination of student success support training for Success Coaches and Mentors.
d. Assist in coordination of student support services with the Laker Success Coordinator.
e. Collaborate with other key offices/departments on campus to ensure student participation in recommended support programs (Early Alert, Housing, Mentoring, Tutoring and others)
f. Assist Academic Success Center Coordinator in programming student support workshops.
15. Assists in coordination and management of designated athletic banquets.
16. Complies with all NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations, policies, and procedures
17. Participates on various University, conference, and national committees, and other special assignments
18. Performs all other related duties as assigned or directed to promote, further, and ensure the effective and efficient operation of LSSU.
19. Performs other related duties as assigned.
