Job Summary/Basic Function:

FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

The Academic Accessibility Services Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Library and Academic Services. This person is responsible for providing academic support services for students with documented disabilities in compliance with the ADA requirements. The Coordinator will maintain confidentiality, review requests for services and determine disability verification for students through analysis of medical and psychological documentation. The Coordinator will ensure that reasonable accommodations and services are implemented to provide equal access in accordance with ADA.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Act as a resource for academic accessibility related information across all areas of campus. Collaborate with Library and Academic Services staff to promote student retention and success.

Review and establish reasonable accommodations for students under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Maintain confidential cumulative records and documentation of all students served.

Complete student intake process, determine eligibility, and arrange academic accommodations for eligible students. Responsible for providing and supporting adaptive technology and auxiliary aids when applicable (such as assistive technologies including; alternative format textbooks, screen reading programs, assistive hearing or vision devices, assistive software, note takers and other supports as appropriate).

Works with faculty, staff, and external service providers and agencies to coordinate and implement services for students with disabilities.

Performs other duties to facilitate equal access and students' successful course and program completion.

Serve as liaison to Housing and Student Life on issues related to students with disabilities to ensure compliance with ADA; such as work collaboratively with the Office of Housing and Residence Life to receive and recommend Housing and/or Service/Assistance Animal (ESA) accommodation requests.

Maintain Accessibility Services web page.

Develop and update academic accessibility services policies and procedures as needed.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge on best practices and issues in the field affecting students with disabilities.

Participates in relevant professional development activities to stay informed of state and federal regulations regarding students with disabilities and special populations.

Keeps staff and administration informed of state and federal requirements for areas of assigned responsibility

Coordinate services for students with temporary disabilities.

Represent Academic Accessibility Services at campus events.

Contributes professionally by serving, as appropriate, on college committees and task groups.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree
Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act Amended, Rehabilitation Acts 504 and 508 Ability to understand and interpret disability documentation
Experience working with a diverse student population
Excellent communication, collaboration and organizational skills
Experience working successfully in a collaborative team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

3-5 years’ experience in higher education
Master’s degree in Special Education or related field
Experience working with individuals with disabilities, including learning, psychological, sensory, physical, intellectual, and acquired brain injuries
Excellent skillsets in creativity and critical thinking

Physical Demands:

Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of gross motor skills to perform management and organizational duties; use of fine motor skills to operate computer; problem-solving ability; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks; mental capacity to assist with numerous administrative responsibilities.

Work Hours: 

Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00
