Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Chemistry at Lake Superior State University invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position in Chemistry, broadly defined. We are seeking an enthusiastic and student-focused educator who is eager to contribute to our hands-on learning environment in August 2026.
At LSSU, you will have the opportunity to share your expertise across a range of programs, including Biochemistry, Chemistry, Cannabis Chemistry, and Forensic Chemistry. The successful candidate will teach both foundational and advanced chemistry courses, mentor undergraduate research activities, and help shape the future of our nationally recognized and ACS-accredited chemistry program.
Duties and Responsibilities
Twelve contract hours of instruction aligned with your expertise, including General Chemistry and upper-level course. and other assigned responsibilities per semester.
Mentor undergraduate students through hands-on research and professional development opportunities.
Maintain a minimum of five hours devoted to office hours to support student success.
Contribute to curriculum development and the creation of new courses that prepare students for graduate school, professional programs, or the workforce.
Participation in professional and scholarly activities, including undergraduate research projects and dissemination of knowledge through publication, community, or faculty presentations.
Safely conduct and supervise laboratory procedures and experiments.
Advising and recruitment of students.
Course and program assessment.
Provide service to the university and community, contributing to LSSU’s mission and collaborative spirit.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Chemistry or related field.
Experience operating chemical instrumentation including mass spectrometers.
Experience teaching at the undergraduate level.
Desired Qualifications
Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field.
Experience instructing from delivery formats including classroom, online, and/or blended.
Experience facilitating applied research activities involving undergraduate students.
