Laker Success & First-Generation Coordinator

Lake Superior State University invites applications for a Regular Full Time Laker Success & First-Generation Coordinator position within our Campus Life team. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on student success and retention by supporting first-generation college students throughout their academic journey.

About the Opportunity

You'll work directly with first-generation students, helping them navigate college life and achieve their academic goals. This position combines student support, program development, and collaborative initiatives to create an inclusive campus environment where all Lakers can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized support and mentoring to first-generation college students
  • Develop and implement programming that addresses the unique needs of first-generation learners
  • Collaborate with academic departments, student services, and community partners
  • Track student progress and maintain accurate records of interactions and outcomes
  • Coordinate workshops on topics such as financial literacy, academic planning, and career preparation
  • Connect students with campus resources including tutoring, counseling, and financial aid

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in education, student affairs, counseling, or related field
  • Experience working with college students, particularly first-generation or underrepresented populations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to team goals
  • Knowledge of higher education systems and student development theory
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles
