Title: Payroll Coordinator

VP Area: Human Resources

Department: Payroll

Published Salary Range: 60,000-65000

Job Summary/Basic Function:

Under general supervision of the of Human Resources Manager this position supervises all activities necessary to process payroll; drafts applicable policies and recommends policy changes for areas of responsibility; conducts audits and ensures compliance with all applicable State and Federal laws and regulations; produces applicable reports; program management for Banner system for payroll and human resource modules; conducts training; special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business, or a related field.
Experience: Two (2) years of progressively more responsible professional-level payroll and employee compensation-related experience. Demonstrated ability to manage a busy payroll office. Must have experience with pension and retirement accounts. Must have a working knowledge of governmental regulations affecting payroll and retirement plans. Must have strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Demonstrated ability to use online systems for payroll, remittance, and associated activities. Must have strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Must have Payroll system experience. Demonstrated ability to gather, organize, and analyze various data sets. Must have working knowledge and experience with various laws and regulations, such as FLSA.

Preferred Qualifications:

An understanding of project management methodologies, experience with Banner and Banner payroll, a working understanding of a variety of human resource functions, knowledge of unemployment compensation, and workers’ compensation. Knowledge of MPSERS and TIAA retirement plans.

Physical Demands:

Ability to hear a normal conversational voice and telephone conversation, with or without a hearing device; ability to speak and be understood under normal circumstances; ability to read and to understand written and spoken language; ability to see with or without vision aid and to concentrate long hours on a computer screen. Use of fine motor skills and dexterity to type and input computer information, and for the use of other business machines. Use of gross motor skills for filing, handling of paperwork, and equipment. Ability to communicate with a variety of audiences; ability to understand and work with numbers and detail work.

Work Hours: 

Monday - Friday 8:00 - 5:00 After hours on a need basis
