Title: Assistant Professor of Nursing

Published Salary Range: $55,000 to $60,000

Job Summary/Basic Function:

Under the direction of the Dean of the College of Health and Behavior, provide course instruction to students utilizing multiple teaching formats. Provide academic and professional services as dictated by the FA contract and professional standards. The position will involve teaching primarily assigned nursing and health courses within the School of Nursing.

We are searching for an innovative faculty member who will be responsible for providing didactic and clinical instruction including evaluation of nursing students. Professional and scholarly activities are expected, but quality undergraduate teaching is the primary responsibility. Additional responsibilities of the position include recruiting and advising students, marketing programs, course and program assessment, and university/community service. The successful candidate is expected to work in a positive collegial relationship with faculty and staff. Faculty are expected to support student learning through the development of a positive learning environment and use of evidence based teaching modalities. Teaching assignment will be primarily face to face, but may include online or blended formats for students located both on the primary campus and regional centers.

Duties and responsibilities of a faculty member as defined by the FA contract will be expected. A minimum teaching load of 12 credits per semester is the standard assignment, other duties include departmental and university service, academic advising, course and program assessment, and scholarly activity.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be eligible for RN licensure to practice in Michigan. A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is required for tenure track position. Current or recent community based nursing practice, medical/surgical experience and/or nursing education is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Eligibility for RN licensure to practice in Ontario. A doctoral degree in nursing or related field. Formal teaching experience in both lecture and clinical settings with Bachelor of Science nursing students.

Physical Demands:

Must have the physical and emotional reserves to work with undergraduate nursing students. Faculty must be able to perform physically (with or without reasonable accommodations) and safely in the clinical setting. Must be able to lift 50 lbs., walk/stand 12 hour shifts, and use full sensory ability for patient assessment.
